On Monday I had a real ‘off’ day. Waking up with my eyes still closed, energy locked in my sleeping cells. A feeling that stayed with me throughout the day. Spiced up with a bit of self-berating, self-doubt and a dollop of fear. I had been told this could happen when you start your own business. Well I can confirm: it does. No matter how wonderful it is to be your own boss, to have your own business, and to become a true jack of all trades – there are moments when there is only overwhelm.
I needed something to help me change my mood, and so I went back to one of the most beautiful things I have ever read, this little piece by Marianne Williamson:
Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people will not feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It is not just in some of us; it is in everyone and as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give others permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.
Somehow, I cannot read this without being moved to my core – every time. Somehow, it allows me to start taking my place again, completely. I guess I just need that reminder from time to time.
Today, let’s all be brilliant.
